It’s never been easy to become fluent in another language without leaving the protective and sheltered perimeters of your home, city, state and country. And, in all honestly (and for obvious reasons), we’ve never been very enthused by the idea. We’re self-proclaimed advocates for travel. Feeling entirely uncomfortable and 100% immersed within somewhere foreign and strange.

Yet, like you, we crave accessibility. We believe new experiences, language learning and the ability to see culture, up close and personal, should be at the fingertips of each and every one of us.

With that said, El Nomad is on the move. We’re harnessing the power of social media to vamp up your Spanish language skills and cultural understanding in the only way we know how – by making it a natural part of your every day. Working it in with the things that you already love and do daily. Rather than pushing you to develop new habits, we want you to fit in with the habits you already have.

We’re giving you a taste of an El Nomad experience, without you having to go through border security or cross any large chunks of water.

With that long introduction, El Nomad is presenting you with two new opportunities.

To begin with, we’re now part of the snapchat community (start cheering!). Don’t worry, it’s not just the fact that we’re on snapchat which makes us excited – it’s the content we will be bringing you.

We’re giving you a taste of the in’s and out’s of local life.  Live the sights, smells, tastes, and sounds with daily photos, videos, and words of the day. See cuy (guinea pig) roasting on stick (we eat that here), or women in traditional dress wandering the cobbled streets of Cuenca. It’s a taste of what it feels like to travel and be in a totally different part of the word.

On top of that, we’re putting together a weekly Spanish Shindig, starting the 15th of February, the day after Valentine's Day, or as they say in Ecuador, El Dia de Amor y Amistad (the day of love and friendship). The Spanish Shindig resembles, in many ways, a conversational club. However, it’s designed to be more fun, like all things that happen with El Nomad. It’s social and laidback, full of Spanish chitchat and language learners across all levels.

It’s a program designed for future study abroad students, returnees, and language-learners looking for a way to get into Spanish mode, without taking away time from your busy schedule.
